Several brackets at the Las Vegas Invitational are filling up, but not all as the largest rugby tournament in North America continues to grow despite some obstacles.
With the LVI not being a qualifier for the CRC, many college teams have opted not to come or to play 15s. In addition, with the tournament two weeks earlier than usual because of the Winter Olympics, some teams just aren't ready.
Still, said Tournament Director Jon Hinkin, there has been massive interest in several brackets. The Men's Elite was expanded, and still almost filled out. The Women's Open 7s and Boys HS Elite and Open 7s are also close to being full.
However, there are still some outstanding opportunities for high-leave 15s challenge matches for both colleges and clubs - the kind of games that make everyone stop and watch.
In fact, said Hinkin, "7s in all high school brackets, including girls and under 16s has been really popular."
And, warned Hinkin, "don't let the early date this year sneak up on you; get your team registered as soon as possible."
The LVI has added shuttle service to all LVI fields during all matches from the tournament sponsor hotel, the Hard Rock Hotel.
